Medinaceli – Soria

A small village in Soria, Castilla y Leon where you find historic buildings form Romans, Arabs and Christians. At the entrance to Medinaceli you find a Roman arch from the 2nd century, the only one with 3 arches that is preserved in Spain.

Other points of interest are the Roman Church of Santa María la Mayor, the palace of thge Dukes of Medinaceli as well as the remains of an old Arab castle. It is said that Almanzor the powerful leader of Islamic Spain is buried there.

If you are into medival towns Medinaceli should be on your list of places to visit in Spain. When visiting we saw many small shops and restaurants – but many of them where closed beacuse of the COVID19 situation. The next time we will plan for lunch in one of the traditional places and will order a Costrada Soriana for desert.
